Andrea Smith Gonzalez serves as the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation for the City of San Marcos. She has been with the City since 2018, where she began as a Senior Services Supervisor before being promoted to Program Manager and eventually to Assistant Director. She has worked in recreation for over 20 years, serving her communities in both the non-profit and public sector. She has experience in special events, outdoor programming, senior and youth services, parks and facility reservations, Rangers and oversight in aquatics, sports, contract classes and camps.
Andrea has worked with several community boards and commissions including youth, veterans, aging and citizen committees with common goals, such as facilitating intergenerational games and community parades. She has served several years on the California Parks & Recreation Society board and is currently serving a President. She enjoys giving back to her community thru public service and mentorship.
Andrea has two kids that brighten her world every day. They enjoy running, dancing, hiking and playing at the beach. They can also often be found at local playgrounds, because Parks Make Life Better!
